Heart Wrenching Quotes From The Movie ‘Till”

The American biographical film Till made it’s way to the theaters on October 14th starring Danielle Deadwyler as Mamie Till, Jalyn Hall as Emmett Till and Whoopi Goldberg as Alma Carthan. It shows Mamie Till an educator and activist who pursued justices after the lynching of her 14-year-old son. I was invited out to an advance screening but I just couldn’t go see it because it was just too emotional for me and I have a son. I know many people wanted to know what actually happened to this young man at such a young age but it was just too much for me! If you didn’t get a chance to see it, I suggest you do with your family but just be warned you may be triggered! See the heart wrenching quotes inside…

  • I don’t want him seeing himself the way people see him down there.
  • He as a perfect baby. Born breech and has his share of problems, but he was a perfect baby.
  • Hate is like a virus in the blood of the Mississippi
  • Mr Moody, my son is dead
  • I keep asking myself, why is this happening? Why did he take my son from me?
  • No one is going to believe what I saw. They have to see it for themselves.
  • He came here to me, reeking of racial hatred
  • My child is dead and she is going to be fine.
  • Getting a murder indictment of two white men in Mississippi ain’t easy!
  • I thought you uppity n*ggers could read?
  • A mother knows. Your mother would know. And I know this is my boy.
  • Either freedom for everybody or freedom fails

Till is a profoundly emotional and cinematic film about the true story of Mamie Till Mobley’s relentless pursuit of justice for her 14 year old son, Emmett Till, who, in 1955, was lynched while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. In Mamie’s poignant journey of grief turned to action, we see the universal power of a mother’s ability to change the world.
