Have you had a chance to catch the comedy on Netflix, You People? Well, it’s created a lot of buzz and people are talking! The film stars Eddie Murphy, Jonah Hill, Nia Long, Lauren London and a host of others. You will see a lot of cameos as well from fellow comics. It centers around an interracial couple getting married, yet their families are causing problems in their relationship.
It’s filled with cringe-worth cheesy scenes and jokes that kinda fall flat! I never really did a movie review where I totally disliked a film but this movie was just not for me! I did find a few scenes funny but it just seemed that some things were just forced and over done. I was over it about halfway in and it never got any better!
If you’re a fan on Eddie or Jonah you may like it but it just did not hold up to it’s hype and from reading the reviews people felt the same way. People are dragging creator and co-writer Kenya Barris all over the internet and he’s been the topic of discussion all weekend because people feel as though he keeps making the same kind of interracial shows over and over again and its getting to be redundant. As we all know, he has an interracial family but we GET IT! It’s giving “overkill”.
Kenya recently did an interview with Essence where he said, “I feel like it’s insane to be honest with you,” says the writer and director of “You People” on Netflix. “They want all of our stories to be for everyone and that’s impossible.”
A Twitter user by the name “Big Dude” also said, Kenya Barris seems like a suburban, middle class African-American who makes projects to make white people feel hip about learning what he thinks black culture is.
I give the movie a solid C. I do have a few funny quotes from the film inside, have a blessed day everyone…
- You look like a dad who lost his kid at Coachella
- Hearing the word “p*&&y” come out of your mouth has me questioning if I like it.

- I didn’t got to Harvard, I went to Howard. It’s like a black Harvard

When a rideshare mix-up in LA brings Ezra Cohen (Jonah Hill) and Amira Mohammed (Lauren London) together, the two find themselves connecting over a shared love of streetwear and music. As they fall in love, their relationship is tested by their respective families: Ezra’s progressive and semi-woke parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny) and Amira’s unyielding yet concerned parents (Eddie Murphy and Nia Long) who inject themselves into their lives mercilessly. Kenya Barris’ feature film directorial debut is a modern love story set amidst clashing cultures and interfaith relationships. Co-written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill and produced by the two alongside Kevin Misher, the comedy features an all-star ensemble cast including Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage and Mike Epps.
