Cedric the Entertainer sat down with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday, May 7th. Cedric revealed which role he’d like to play on Broadway and what it was like doing a Mamet play. Cedric the Entertainer, born Cedric Antonio Kyles on April 24, 1964, in Jefferson City, Missouri, is a popular American comedian, actor, and game show host. Cedric adopted the moniker “the Entertainer” early in his career to indicate that his performances would include not only comedy but also singing, dancing, and acting.
He attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he majored in communications and began to explore his interest in performing arts. Cedric first gained significant attention when he won the Miller Lite Comedy Search in 1990, which helped to launch his career in comedy and entertainment.
Cedric is well-known for his role as Cedric Jackie Robinson on “The Steve Harvey Show,” which aired from 1996 to 2002. The show was a significant stepping stone in his career. Cedric was part of the comedy tour “The Original Kings of Comedy” with Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac. The tour was later turned into a successful documentary film directed by Spike Lee.
Cedric hosted the game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” from 2013 to 2014, adding game show hosting to his list of talents. In 2019, Cedric received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of his contributions to entertainment. Cedric played the role of Eddie in the popular “Barbershop” film series, which became one of his most iconic characters.
