Amandla Stenberg is an American actress and singer known for their versatility and activism. Amandla began acting at a young age, with one of their first major roles being young Cataleya in the film “Colombiana” (2011).

They gained widespread recognition for their role as Rue in “The Hunger Games” (2012), which brought them international fame. Their first name, Amandla, means “power” or “strength” in Zulu and Xhosa.

Amandla is a vocal advocate for various social justice causes, including LGBTQ+ rights, racial equality, and gender inclusivity. In addition to acting, Amandla is musically gifted. They were part of the folk-rock duo Honeywater.

They have been named among Time magazine’s Most Influential Teens and have received accolades for their contributions to discussions about race and gender. Amandla co-wrote the comic book “Niobe: She is Life,” which features a young Black female warrior.

Amandla identifies as non-binary and uses both they/them and she/her pronouns. They have played a variety of roles, from Starr Carter in “The Hate U Give” (2018) to Alana Beck in the film adaptation of the musical “Dear Evan Hansen” (2021).
