I had an epic stay at Tapoco Lodge recently, and when I asked the staff about the weekend events, they got super excited and told me I was there at the perfect time because it was the annual Kayaking event! Apparently, they raise the river, called the “River Release” and kayakers from all over come to either compete or just watch.
I had never seen anything like it, but I was all in for the adventure! Kayakers were flying down the river, pulling off crazy stunts, and even diving underwater, no thanks, I’d never be that brave! It was freezing outside, and yes, we were in the mountains, but the kayakers didn’t seem to mind one bit. It was an incredible sight to see, and the energy was absolutely infectious!
