Red Carpet Rundown: Survival Of The Thickest S2 New York Premiere

On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Netflix celebrated the return of SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST for Season 2 the only way Mavis Beaumont knows how – by having a mo’ment!

To kick off the evening, Netflix partnered with Everyday People to host a celebratory and inclusive ‘Doing Thee Most’ community toast at Nobu Fifty Seven. The evening brought together Michelle Buteau (Creator, Writer, EP & ‘Mavis’), Peppermint, Tone Bell, Tasha Smith, Bevy Smith, the creative team and influential figures in the Black and LGBTQ+ community including: Achieng Agutu, Scottie Beam, Kela Walker, Simi Moonlight, Sophi Diaries, Thaddeus, Sean Garrette, and more! There was a special toast led by Buteau and Peppermint before departing for the premiere.

The celebration continued over at the DGA New York Theater where cast & creatives took to the red carpet. Attendees were then treated to a special surprise performance by House of Balenciaga ahead of a screening of the first two episodes. Following the screening, Michelle Buteau, Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (Creator, Showrunner & EP), Amy Aniobi (Showrunner, EP & Director), Tone Bell, Tasha Smith and Peppermint joined moderator Amber Ruffin on stage for an FYC Panel surrounding the second season.

SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST S2 cast showed up strong for the celebration including Liza Treyger, Jerrie Johnson, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Dan Amboyer, Celisse Henderson, Sandra Bernhard while additional attendees also included Jonathan Van Ness, ALOK, Padma Lakshmi, Sherri Shepherd, Dominique Jackson, Wyatt Cenac, Lion Babe and more!

Survival of the Thickest centers on Mavis Beaumont (Michelle Buteau). Black, plus-size, and looking for love, while loving herself, Mavis works hard to grow her brand and establish herself as a stylist of note. She’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body-positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss. The scripted comedy is inspired by Buteau’s acclaimed book of essays.
