FREAKIER FRIDAY: Generations Collide Brunch!

This past Friday, August 1st, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Freakier Friday: Generations Collide Brunch, hosted by none other than Kelli Ferrell of Real Housewives of Atlanta. Held at the iconic Nana’s Chicken & Waffles, this event was a celebration of all things Y2K, family fun, and let’s be real incredible Southern food.

From the moment I walked in, I was transported straight back to the early 2000s. Guests came dressed to impress in their best Y2K-inspired looks think rhinestones, velour tracksuits, mini bags, butterfly clips, and more. The vibe was a perfect mix of playful nostalgia and grown-up glam.

Now let’s talk food because whew, Nana’s never misses, and this brunch menu was next-level. I had the chance to try several dishes and honestly, everything was a solid 10/10. Here’s what hit the spot:

Fried Green Tomatoes – crispy, tangy, and the perfect Southern starter

New Orleans–Style Beignets – powdered perfection

Cajun Grit Cakes – creamy, spicy, and so satisfying

Strawberry Chicken & Waffles – sweet, savory, and beautifully plated

Southern Fried Catfish – light, flaky, and seasoned just right

Rum Punch – fruity with a kick, and dangerously delicious

Besides the mouthwatering menu, the brunch delivered on entertainment and atmosphere. Guests enjoyed DIY friendship bracelet stations, photo ops galore, and the energy of a family-friendly girls’ night out. It felt like a scene straight out of a modern-day Freaky Friday fitting, since the event was inspired by the film’s updated take on blended families and unexpected swaps. As Tess and Anna discover in Freakier Friday, lightning can strike twice and so can the fun.

You know it’s a party when celebs start rolling in. I spotted:

Warren G yes, the hip-hop legend himself, Mia Thornton from Real Housewives of Potomac, Rod & Leticia Gardner, social media stars and one seriously gorgeous couple (Leticia is even more stunning in person!)

It was a star-studded affair with a down-to-earth vibe, and everyone came together to celebrate the joy of food, fun, and family.

Whether you came for the eats, the Y2K vibes, or the celeb sightings, Freakier Friday Brunch was a full-on experience. If you’re ever lucky enough to catch one of these events in the future, don’t walk run. And come hungry.

Because when generations collide over good food and throwback fun, magic happens. Freakier Friday is in theaters now, see more inside…
