I had such a delightful experience visiting Chado Tea Room in Torrance, California, it was truly a charming little escape! Whenever I’m in a new city, I love using TikTok to discover hidden gems, and that’s exactly how I stumbled upon this spot just 15 minutes from my hotel in Redondo Beach.
Chado Tea Room first opened its doors on West 3rd Street back in 1990 as a quaint little tearoom lined with 300 canisters of tea from around the world. In 1993, Reena Shah and her husband, Devan, took it over and began transforming the tea scene in Los Angeles. By 1999, Tekeste “Tek” Mehreteab joined the team, starting as a cook and eventually becoming a partner, helping them expand to multiple locations, including this lovely one in Torrance.
I even convinced my boyfriend, who had never been to a tea room before to come along, and he was such a good sport! We opted for their Celebration Afternoon Tea Service, which included a wine-inspired iced tea, tea-infused chocolates, a choice of Cream of Tomato Soup or Chado Salad, a three-tier stand with four half sandwiches (Smoked Salmon, Souchong Chicken, Punjab, and Limerick), a fresh scones with Chado cream and jam, a macaroon, a butter cookie, and of course, a pot of tea. Everything was freshly prepared and absolutely divine! I went with the Beauty White Tea, so smooth and fragrant.
One of the cutest touches? They have an entire wall of teas you can sample or purchase, and even a selection of hats to pair with your outfit, how fun is that? As I looked around, I saw tea parties happening everywhere, including a bridal shower, it’s the perfect venue for one!
If you’re ever in the area or planning a California getaway, Chado Tea Room is a must-visit. With several locations across the city, it’s the perfect spot to slow down, sip, and savor. See more inside…
