Netflix has announced several exciting additions to the cast of its upcoming A Different World sequel series, including the return of original stars Dawnn Lewis and Glynn Turman, who will reprise their beloved roles from the classic sitcom. Lewis returns as Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor, while Turman steps back into the role of Colonel Bradford Taylor. Joining them is Tichina Arnold, who will portray Darlene Duvall, along with Joshua Suiter as Andre and Raven Goodwin as Dr. Brooklyn Boyer.
The new cast members join a previously announced ensemble that blends original favorites with a new generation of talent. Maleah Joi Moon will star as Deborah, alongside Alijah Kai Haggins as Rashida, Cornell Young as Shaquille, Kennedi Reece as Hazel, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, and Chibuikem Uche as Kojo. Returning fan favorites from the original series include Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne, Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert, Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, and Charnele Brown as Dr. Kimberly Reese Boyer. The series will also feature Jenifer Lewis as Professor Davenport, Vincent Jamal Hooper as Ellington, Elijah J. Roberts as Jalen, Renee Harrison as Candace, Famecia Ward as Nellie Gaines, and Dasan Frazier as Xavier, rounding out a dynamic cast that bridges the legacy of the original show with a fresh new chapter.
The storyline will follow Deborah, Dwayne Wayne, and Whitley Gilbert’s free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet rebellious youngest child, enters her freshman year at Hillman College, she finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.
