After kickstarting a worldwide tour in Hawaiʻi earlier this month and completing stops in Shanghai, China, and Sydney, Australia, the cast and filmmakers behind Disney’s highly anticipated reimagining of “Moana,” including Dwayne Johnson, Catherine Lagaʻaia and director Thomas Kail, continued the global celebration of the upcoming film at a special “Moana” event in the U.K.
Producers Beau Flynn, p.g.a.; Hiram Garcia, p.g.a.; executive producer Scott Sheldon; executive producerAuliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated films “Moana” and “Moana 2” and who performs (with Johnson and Lagaʻaia) the new original song “Along The Way” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda; choreographer and associate producerTiana Nonosina Liufau; and assistant choreographer Kayla Faʻamaligi were also in attendance at the spectacular immersive event in London today.
The “Moana” Experience centered around a giant 20-foot-tall replica of Maui’s fishhook alongside a breathtaking recreation of Moana’s canoe. The Pacific-inspired event featured an array of dance, drum and vocal performances that included renditions of the beloved “Moana” songs, and the cast and filmmakers surprised fans and posed for photos at Potters Fields Park in front of London’s iconic Tower Bridge. At the conclusion of the event, students from the British Theatre Academy performed Maui’s iconic song “You’re Welcome” and were delighted when Dwayne Johnson joined them in their performance on stage.
Among the thousands of invited attendees were students from St. Gregory’s School in Colchester. The children were invited as a surprise and believed they were going on a typical school trip until the moment they arrived. The school group went viral on social media earlier this year after posting on TikTok asking Dwayne Johnson to comment on their video. Johnson replied to the school via his own video, and those same students were invited to attend the London event and met Johnson in person today.
