My husband Kelvin and I recently headed to a beautiful country to celebrate our union, and let me tell you it was one of the most magnificent suggestions we could have ever received! Our journey to Sweden was extra special because of the beautiful friendship that made the trip possible.
Here’s the backstory: Kelvin and his dear friend Dan have known each other for quite some time. They first met about 13 years ago while working together at Tiffany & Co. Dan was in management, while Kelvin served as head of security. The two bonded almost immediately and have been great friends ever since.
Years later, Dan met his beautiful wife Elvira, who is Swedish, while living in Miami during the COVID era. The two fell in love, got married, and Dan eventually moved to Sweden so, as we like to joke, he officially became a Swede!
Today, they are the proud parents of their precious three-year-old daughter, Olivia, who is truly the apple of their eye. Kelvin and I are also incredibly honored and grateful to be Olivia’s godparents, which makes our relationship with their family even more special.
We stay connected through WhatsApp and Instagram, and when we surprised them with the news that we were planning a honeymoon trip to Sweden following our wedding, they were absolutely ecstatic! I must say, Elvira and I have something in common we are both very Type A personalities! She, much like my daughter and me, loves having a plan, and she put together the most amazing itinerary for our stay.
Our first stop was the luxurious Hotel Pigalle in Gothenburg, where we stayed for the evening. The moment we pulled up, I was in awe. The hotel had such a chic, swanky presence, and if you know me, you know I absolutely love a fabulous boutique hotel with personality and charm!

From the gorgeous artwork and vintage-inspired décor to the eclectic art pieces throughout the property, everything about Hotel Pigalle made me feel giddy inside! The vibes were simply immaculate. The stylish bar, the rooftop views and the overall ambiance made it the perfect place to kick off our Swedish adventure.
But the surprises didn’t stop there! Elvira sweetly upgraded our standard room to the Honeymoon Suite, which made our stay feel even more romantic and special. The hotel even gives guests an old-fashioned key adorned with a beautiful velvet tassel. So fancy and such a charming touch!
Once we entered our suite, the first thing that caught our attention was the standing shower, which was located right in the room adjacent to the bed. I had honestly never seen anything quite like it before! It was unique, unexpected and added even more character to the space. Between the cozy bed, beautiful décor and thoughtful amenities, we absolutely loved our room.
Later that evening, we headed downstairs to the bar, which had the coolest speakeasy-inspired vibe. We enjoyed complimentary champagne and cocktails before heading out to dinner, and honestly, it was the perfect first night in Sweden.
The next morning, we were up bright and early and made our way to the rooftop for a hearty breakfast. Everything was fresh, delicious and exactly what we needed before beginning another day of adventures.
What makes Hotel Pigalle even more fascinating is its rich history. The building dates back to the 18th century and has had quite an interesting life over the years, evolving from its original purpose into a private residence and later becoming a place connected to creativity, innovation and hospitality before reopening as the luxurious Hotel Pigalle we know today.
Although our stay was only for one night, Kelvin and I absolutely fell in love with this charming hotel and would definitely stay there again. If you are planning a trip to Gothenburg, Sweden, and love a little luxury, history, personality and boutique-style charm, Hotel Pigalle should definitely be on your list!
Our Swedish honeymoon adventure was officially off to a fabulous start!
