What a beautiful way to inspire the next generation of dreamers!
Four-time Grammy Award-winning and Emmy Award-winning superstar Lizzo made a special appearance at College Park Elementary School on Thursday, October 22, bringing a little music, magic, and motivation to students during a heartwarming literacy event!
The exciting experience was hosted by Page Turners Make Great Learners, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging children to develop a lifelong love of reading.
And let me tell you, this was so much more than your average story time!
The talented singer, songwriter, and now children’s book author introduced students to her debut picture book, Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’, while sharing a powerful message about confidence, individuality, friendship, and believing in yourself.
I absolutely love seeing celebrities use their platforms to pour positivity into our young people!
Lizzo Shares Her Children’s Book With Atlanta-Area Students
During the special author event, Lizzo spent time connecting with students and sharing the inspiration behind her children’s book, Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’.
The uplifting story encourages young readers to embrace what makes them unique, celebrate their creativity, and discover the power of their own voices.
And if you know anything about Lizzo, you already know she’s all about confidence, self-expression, and encouraging people to love themselves exactly as they are!
Students had the opportunity to hear Lizzo read from her book, learn more about her journey, and experience something extra special.
She even played the flute for them!
How cool is that?
Imagine going to school expecting an ordinary Thursday and having a Grammy-winning superstar show up to read a story and perform!
Those are the kinds of childhood memories that stay with you forever.
Page Turners Make Great Learners Creates an Unforgettable Literacy Experience
The event was organized by Fifi Handy, founder and executive director of Page Turners Make Great Learners.
Handy described the school visit as an extraordinary reading experience that gave students the opportunity to connect with Lizzo, hear her perform, and discover the empowering messages in her book.
One of the most meaningful takeaways from the event was the reminder that dreams have no limits.
Lizzo encouraged the children to believe that they can accomplish whatever they set their minds to, regardless of where they come from or what obstacles they might face.
Handy also emphasized how meaningful it was for students to meet someone they might not otherwise have the opportunity to encounter.
Hearing a successful entertainer tell them that they’re beautiful, capable, talented, and empowered can make such a lasting impression.
And that’s what makes events like this so important!
Sometimes all it takes is one encouraging voice to help a child see the possibilities waiting ahead.
College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom Supports Childhood Literacy
Also joining the celebration was College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom, one of the generous sponsors of the event.
Mayor Broom attended in support of her Mayor’s Reading Club, an initiative focused on encouraging childhood literacy and making reading a priority for young learners.
The club is part of GeorgiaForward’s statewide effort to empower mayors to champion literacy in their communities.
I love seeing community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and entertainers come together for such a meaningful cause.
Reading opens so many doors for children, from strengthening their imagination and creativity to helping them develop communication skills and confidence.
And when children see successful people celebrating books, it sends a wonderful message that reading is something to be excited about!
Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’ Celebrates Confidence and Finding Your Voice
At the heart of Lizzo’s debut children’s book is a message that young readers can carry with them long after story time ends.
The story celebrates friendship, individuality, and the courage to embrace your own special gifts.
Those are lessons that extend far beyond the classroom.
Whether a child dreams of becoming a musician, doctor, teacher, dancer, entrepreneur, or even a television personality, it’s important for them to know that their dreams matter.
And having someone like Lizzo reinforce that message makes the experience even more memorable.
Tami’s Take: This Is the Kind of Celebrity Moment I Love!
Now, you already know I love a fabulous celebrity appearance, but there’s something especially beautiful about seeing stars give back to children!
What touched me most about Lizzo’s visit was the message behind it.
Yes, she’s an international superstar with Grammys and an Emmy, but on this particular day, she was using her voice to inspire young readers right here in the Atlanta area.
And as a grandmother of two little boys, I absolutely love seeing programs that encourage children to read, dream big, and believe in themselves.
There’s something so magical about watching a child’s imagination come alive through books!
I also think it’s wonderful that Lizzo incorporated her flute playing into the experience. Combining music with storytelling makes learning feel exciting and memorable.
And how adorable is the title Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’? It sounds like such a fun addition to a little one’s bookshelf!
Major applause to Fifi Handy, Page Turners Make Great Learners, Mayor Bianca Motley Broom, and everyone who helped make this beautiful event possible.
Giving children the gift of confidence and a love for reading is something worth celebrating!
Congratulations to Lizzo on her debut children’s book, and thank you for reminding these young students that their voices matter and their dreams are limitless.
Now tell me, dolls, what was your favorite children’s book growing up? And do you enjoy seeing celebrities visit schools and inspire the next generation?
