Ayo sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to talk about being from Boston, going back home to her high school and being surprised by the Mayor with “Ayo Day,” staying in her childhood room, her yearbook photo and nicknames, the return of FX’s “The Bear,” and co-writing one of the episodes with Lionel Boyce.
The show is about a young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he’s used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother’s suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family.
Ayo Edebiri plays Sydney Adamu, a talented and ambitious sous chef who joins the team at The Original Beef of Chicagoland, helping the restaurant transition into The Bear. She is a central character, tasked with bringing order and structure to the chaotic kitchen and restaurant.
