Red Carpet Rundown: Netflix Presents A Special Look At the Tyler Perry Universe at Essence Festival

On Friday, July 4, 2025, Netflix kicked-off Essence Festival with some big news! Hosted by Bevy Smith, Netflix gave attendees a first-ever look at favorite films and series from the Tyler Perry Universe.

The Essence Stage moment highlighted upcoming titles:

MADEA’S DESTINATION WEDDING – On Netflix July 11

MISS GOVERNOR : SEASON 1, PART 2 – On Netflix August 14

BEAUTY IN BLACK: SEASON 2 – On Netflix September 11

RUTH & BOAZ – On Netflix September 26

Bevy Smith kicked the moment off with Terri J. Vaughn, star of MISS GOVERNOR: SEASON 1 who debuted the Part 2 trailer alongside key art.

BEAUTY IN BLACK cast Taylor Polidore Williams, Crystle Stewart, Ricco Ross, and Julian Horton joined to surprise fans and announce the highly anticipated Season 2 release date of September 11, 2025 with a new teaser asset and images.

Executive Producer, DeVon Franklin, and actor, Tyler Lepley shared a special sneak peak of their upcoming film, RUTH & BOAZ. The film is the first project under the overall faith deal between Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin.

Bevy Smith concluded the special look into Netflix’s Tyler Perry Universe with a Madea teaser clip, and providing a lucky couple with a trip to the Bahamas partnership with The Atlantis Resort in celebration of the upcoming release of MADEA’S DESTINATION WEDDING.
