On Sherri, talk show host Sherri Shepherd welcomed Karen Huger, the The Real Housewives of Potomac star, for a deeply honest and emotional conversation following Karen’s recent release from jail.
Karen held nothing back as she reflected on serving six months in county jail, opening up about sobriety, faith, and the intense public scrutiny she faced. She shared that God has done a great deal of healing in her life and that, while she respects public opinion, she knows her own truth. Today, she says she feels genuine peace and happiness.
Addressing rumors head-on, Karen joked about speculation that she had disappeared for cosmetic surgery, clarifying instead that jail was a harsh and humbling reality sleeping on a cold steel bed and facing life stripped of comfort or glamour. She took full accountability for her actions, admitting she was wrong to drink and drive, and expressed deep gratitude for being alive. Being knocked unconscious in the car accident, she says, was a wake-up call, and she thanks God that no one else was hurt or killed.
During her incarceration, Karen immersed herself in healing, even teaching AA and DA classes, explaining that true teaching comes from lived experience. She admitted that although God was always on her side, she wasn’t listening running from reality instead of facing it. She also spoke candidly about the pressures of reality television, noting that while drinking is often part of the environment, discipline is essential.
One of the most grounding moments for her was seeing her children through a glass window during visits an experience she says she never wants to repeat or put them through again. Karen was resolute in her declaration that she will never drink and drive again, saying there is no room for forgiveness when it comes to that choice.
Ultimately, Karen described the experience as deeply humbling and transformative. She recognizes the blessing of her platform and is committed to using it with intention, honesty, and purpose as she continues her journey of healing and sobriety. This was a very good interview.”
