Keke Palmer is serving chaos, comedy, and couture in the wildly entertaining new heist film I Love Boosters and audiences are absolutely loving it. The movie is already generating major buzz with an impressive 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Keke recently stopped by Good Morning America to dish on the film, her scene-stealing character, and the deeper message hidden beneath all the fun.
In the film, Keke stars as Corvette, the fearless leader of a stylish shoplifting crew known as the Velvet Gang. She hilariously explained that a “booster” is basically “a little bit of a shoplifter” someone who steals luxury fashion items and resells them at discounted prices. Corvette and her crew find themselves at odds with a high-end designer store owner played by Kristen Stewart, kicking off a whimsical, chaotic ride packed with fashion, rebellion, and sisterhood.
Keke couldn’t stop raving about the film’s powerhouse cast, which includes Taylor Russell, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, and Naomi Ackie. She also praised director Boots Riley for blending meaningful social commentary with over-the-top entertainment, much like he did with Sorry to Bother You.
During the interview, Keke had everyone laughing when she admitted she may have “boosted” a few comfy wardrobe warmers from movie sets over the years including hoodies, sweatpants, and Uggs typically given to actors between scenes. According to Keke, once she’s worn them, they officially belong to her! LOL.
But beneath all the humor, Keke revealed that I Love Boosters explores deeper conversations about fashion, value, and culture. Her character believes the trends sold in luxury stores are inspired by people like her and her friends yet they’re often priced out of the very culture they helped create. That tension becomes one of the movie’s biggest themes.
Keke also reflected on her own fashion-industry beginnings, reminding fans that she once played teenage fashion executive True Jackson, VP at just 15 years old. She shared how young viewers still approach her today saying the Nickelodeon series inspired them to pursue careers in fashion, business, and even politics.
Adding another creative layer to the project, Keke revealed she also recorded music inspired by the film and released a companion EP. She explained that Boots Riley’s daughter, Alina, wrote a song inspired by Corvette’s real name, Cassandra, and the emotional lyrics moved her so deeply that it sparked the idea for an entire soundtrack experience. Keke said she wanted the music to feel like classic early-2000s movie soundtracks that fully immersed audiences into the film’s world.
And because Keke always keeps us entertained, the conversation also turned into a mini campaign for Sister Act 3. She revealed she’s been talking with Whoopi Goldberg about finally bringing the beloved franchise back to life, calling Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit one of the rare sequels that may have been even better than the original.
By the end of the interview, Keke got surprisingly heartfelt, explaining that what she loves most about I Love Boosters is its message about self-worth, gratitude, and realizing that everything you truly need is already within you. Leave it to Keke Palmer to make you laugh, think, and feel inspired all at the same time.
