Ryan Coogler Shocks Comic-Con with David Jonsson’s Black Panther Reveal

Marvel Studios delivered one of San Diego Comic-Con’s most talked-about Hall H presentations, with Marvel Studios President and producer Kevin Feige unveiling a slate of major announcements that had fans buzzing from start to finish.

The blockbuster showcase featured an expansive look at Avengers: Doomsday, while Feige also officially announced Marvel Studios’ all-new Ghost Rider, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Shawn Levy. The highly anticipated film is set to ignite theaters on December 15, 2028.

The excitement continued with a surprise Black Panther 3 presentation as writer-director Ryan Coogler joined Feige onstage. Coogler welcomed stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. before confirming that the next chapter in the Black Panther franchise.

The biggest reveal of the evening came when Coogler introduced David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus, Industry, The Long Walk) as the MCU’s new Black Panther. Jonsson will portray T’Challa’s grown son, first introduced in the closing moments of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the upcoming film, the young heir comes of age with his sights set on Wakanda’s throne, ushering in a bold new era for the beloved franchise.

Coogler also shared another groundbreaking announcement: Black Panther 3 will become the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to be shot entirely on large-format celluloid film, marking a cinematic milestone for the franchise.
