Listen, y’all! If you need a good laugh, and I mean the kind where your stomach starts hurting, your eyes are watering and you’re trying to catch your breath, then you need to check out comedian Mojo Brookzz’s Netflix stand-up special, I Know You Lying!
Baby, when I tell you I laughed from beginning to end, I am not exaggerating! I haven’t laughed that hard at a comedy special in a very long time. Mojo kept my attention throughout the entire show, and just when I thought I had recovered from one joke, here came another one that sent me right over the edge! Lol!
And what made it even better? The comedy special was filmed right here in Atlanta!
You already know I love seeing the ATL represented, especially when it’s something this entertaining!
My Personal Experience Meeting Comedian Mojo Brookzz
Before I get into the comedy special, let me share a little something about my personal encounters with Mojo.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions, and both times he was extremely nice, approachable and down-to-earth.
Now, let me tell y’all something!
After spending more than 20 years interviewing celebrities and covering entertainment events, I’ve always said that comedians can be some of the hardest entertainers to figure out.
You never know when they’re joking or when they’re being serious!
Some comedians can be hilarious onstage but completely different when you meet them in person. I’ve encountered personalities that were hot and cold, standoffish and sometimes just downright mean.
But Mojo? He’s been consistent both times I’ve met him.
He was pleasant, friendly and easy to approach, and I genuinely appreciate that.
So kudos to him for being just as personable offstage as he is entertaining in front of an audience!
Now, let’s get into this Netflix special because honey, we have some things to discuss!
First of All, Let’s Talk About That Leather Outfit!
Y’all know I’m a fashion girl, so naturally, the first thing that caught my attention wasn’t even a joke.
It was Mojo’s outfit!
He stepped onstage wearing a two-piece leather ensemble that immediately reminded me of Eddie Murphy’s iconic look from his legendary Delirious comedy special.
I said, wait a minute now! Is Mojo paying homage to Eddie Murphy?
I’m not sure whether that was his intention, but the resemblance definitely caught my eye.
And knowing how influential Eddie Murphy has been in the world of stand-up comedy, I wouldn’t be surprised if the look was a little nod to one of the greats.
Either way, I loved the bold fashion statement!
There’s something about a comedian stepping onstage in leather that lets you know they’re getting ready to cut up! Lol!
Mojo Brookzz Wasted No Time Getting the Audience Laughing!
The Chicago-born comedian opened his special on a humble note, thanking the audience for supporting him and helping him reach this incredible milestone in his career.
I thought that was really sweet.
But don’t let that heartfelt opening fool you!
Once Mojo finished showing his appreciation, baby, he went straight into the jokes!
One thing I particularly enjoyed was how naturally he interacted with the audience.
Instead of simply standing onstage delivering one joke after another, he made the crowd feel like they were part of the show.
His facial expressions, storytelling and hilarious observations about everyday life kept the energy going.
And his material covered everything from dating and relationships to family, friendships and some absolutely outrageous personal experiences.
The Bobby Brown Story Had Me Screaming!
Now, I’m not going to spoil all the jokes because I really want y’all to watch the special for yourselves.
But there were a few moments that had me completely losing it!
One involved Mojo recalling the time he met R&B legend Bobby Brown at a party.
The hilarious twist? He joked that he only felt comfortable attending because Diddy was already locked up!
Girl, I hollered!
The way he delivered that story was so unexpected, and his timing made it even funnier.
And that’s what I enjoyed about Mojo’s comedy. He knows how to take a situation and turn it into something absolutely ridiculous.
His Jokes About Dating Aunties Were Too Relatable!
Now, this part right here had me laughing because I could definitely understand where he was coming from!
Mojo started talking about dating older women, affectionately referring to them as the aunties.
According to him, aunties don’t require nearly as much excitement or running around as younger women.
We just want to go to one nice event, have ourselves a good time and then head home because we’re getting sleepy!
Excuse me, sir! Why are you telling all our business? Lol!
I was cracking up because there’s definitely something to be said about reaching a certain age when you appreciate a good dinner, a comfortable bed and being home at a reasonable hour.
I’ve had my share of late nights covering red carpets, premieres and fabulous parties, but these days, I also appreciate getting home, taking off my makeup and relaxing!
Mojo had a field day with that subject, and his observations were hilarious.
The Jokes Get Very Grown and Very Raunchy!
Now, let me give y’all a little warning before you hit play.
This is not a clean, family-friendly comedy special!
Mojo gets downright grown, nasty, raunchy and sometimes completely outrageous with his material.
He even gets into some very intimate topics, including his appreciation for a particular part of the female anatomy. If you know, you know! Lol!
He also shares a funny story about advice his mother gave him, reminding him that he doesn’t have to do anything he doesn’t want to do.
And of course, Mojo takes that advice and turns it into something only he could come up with!
I was sitting there shaking my head and laughing at the same time.
So if you’re easily offended by adult humor, explicit language or sexually suggestive jokes, this might not be the special for you.
But if you and your significant other enjoy a little outrageous comedy, this could be a hilarious choice for a Netflix date night!
Just make sure your partner isn’t a prude because Mojo doesn’t hold back!
His Story About His Grandmother Added a Heartfelt Moment
What I also appreciated about I Know You Lying was that Mojo wasn’t afraid to get personal.
Between all the wild jokes and hilarious storytelling, he opened up about his grandmother living with dementia.
He talked about how much she loves him and the moments when she’s able to remember him.
That part really touched my heart.
Having family members grow older and watching them experience changes in their health can be incredibly emotional.
And even though Mojo is a comedian, you could feel the love behind that story.
I appreciated how he was able to bring something so personal into his performance while still connecting with the audience through humor.
Sometimes laughter really does help us navigate some of life’s most difficult experiences.
It was a reminder that behind all the jokes is a real person with family, memories and emotions just like the rest of us.
My Review: Is Mojo Brookzz’s I Know You Lying Worth Watching?
Absolutely!
I genuinely enjoyed this comedy special from beginning to end.
Mojo has a natural gift for storytelling, and his ability to interact with the audience makes you feel like you’re sitting right there in the room with him.
His jokes are outrageous, his delivery is hilarious and his personality shines throughout the performance.
I especially loved that the special was filmed in Atlanta. It’s always exciting to see our city serving as the backdrop for major entertainment productions.
And after meeting Mojo in person a few times, it was nice seeing him reach another exciting milestone in his career.
I’ve always appreciated entertainers who remain humble and approachable as their careers grow, and that has been my personal experience with him.
